The Rochester Finger Lakes region in upstate New York is genuinely compelling as a filming destination — varied landscapes, accessible infrastructure, and a team that knows it inside out. What Tim Banach and the Film Commission needed was a way to show that to productions quickly, professionally, and without the friction that was slowing them down every time a new location was scouted.

The old workflow had too many steps. Too many uploads, downloads, re-uploads. Too much time between finding a great location and being able to share it usefully.

The challenge

Every time the team scouted a new location, getting those photos into a shareable, searchable, professionally presented state required six separate manual steps. For a commission competing for productions against larger, better-resourced national hubs, that friction had a real cost: slower responses, more admin, less time for what actually matters.

The solution

Rochester Finger Lakes Film Commission joined SuperScout and launched a public Showcase site — giving productions a searchable, always-on view of the region’s locations.

The workflow change was immediate. Photos taken on location are uploaded, tagged, and shareable in minutes — with contact information attached and the location searchable from the moment it’s added.

In Tim’s words

“SuperScout combines many elements of our locations workflow into one attractive tool, streamlining our processes. Last week, we toured a terrific location for the first time. Within moments of leaving the location, our photos were uploaded to SuperScout and shareable; they were tagged and searchable and had our contact info attached.

With our previous workflow, we would have had at least six manual steps to complete in order to share the photos in a useful way, including uploading and downloading and re-uploading the photos. SuperScout realistically reduced the time we have to dedicate to managing new location photos from hours to minutes.

SuperScout is a vital tool in our ongoing mission to highlight our region and both differentiate ourselves from and compete with national production hubs.

Gabriel and the team at SuperScout are incredibly responsive, always ready to help us maximize the elements of SuperScout that we use most, and keeping us up to date on new features and enhancements that are being added regularly.”

The result

Six steps became one. Hours became minutes. And a regional film commission now has the same quality of location presentation as operations many times its size.

The public Showcase site means the Finger Lakes region is discoverable by productions 24/7 — not just when a production brief lands in Tim’s inbox.
